Chigborough Lakes delivers another enjoyable day - April 2026

Our second fly fishing outing of the season took us to Chigborough Lakes, near Maldon in Essex in April. Although attendance was lower than usual, with only Gerry, George and myself making the trip, it was still an enjoyable day on the water.

Despite the smaller turnout, everyone had opportunities to catch fish. George landed a well-earned trout, while Gerry took top honours for the day with an impressive two fish. I also managed to hook a trout but thanks to a tangled landing net, it escaped on the bank before I could secure it—a frustrating end to what should have been a successful catch!

There were plenty of other chances throughout the day, but for one reason or another I failed to convert them into fish on the bank. As every angler knows that's all part of the challenge and what keeps us coming back for more.

The weather was kinder than on our opening trip. Although there was a brisk breeze at times, it remained dry throughout the day and by the afternoon the sun had made a welcome appearance, providing pleasant conditions to round off the session.

While numbers may have been down, good company, plenty of action and a few fish made for another enjoyable club outing.

We now look forward to the next trip and hope to see more members joining us on the bank.
